JWDA Selected to be Architect for New Atmosphere Affordable Housing Project

San Diego, California -- JWDA has been retained by the Wakeland Housing & Development Corporation to provide architectural services for the new Atmosphere Affordable Housing Project.

Development of this Z-shaped property is proceeding after being acquired by the Wakeland in March 2010. Prior to this acquisition, the excavated site had been abandoned for several years.

Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation is a non-profit affordable housing developer in San Diego. They develop, acquire and rehabilitate quality affordable housing that serve residents earning 60% or below the area median income. Their core principles are: affordability, quality, opportunity and stability. Schematic design has been completed and submitted to the Centre City Development Corporation.

The Atmosphere project site is an approximately 31,800 SF site located between Fourth and Fifth Avenue in San Diego's Cortez Hill neighborhood. The project will be a 12 story building with 205 residential units, each with a private open space. Common spaces shall include a community meeting room, computer room and several multipurpose rooms. Outdoor passive and recreational spaces are included at ground level and at the seventh floor roof deck. Underground parking will be provided. The project is currently being designed and developed to achieve a LEED Certification of Silver.
