SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, U.S.A. -- August 23rd, 2011 - JWDA had the honor of receiving the 2011 Asian Heritage Awards for Excellence in Business Enterprise from the Asian Heritage Society. The Asian Heritage Society has been actively engaged in building a legacy for the Asian Pacific Islander community of Southern California. Its award honorees and nominees include business leaders, government officials, military personnel, educators, doctors, scientists, playwrights and pioneers in all facets of our community.
JWDA was recognized for its team of architects and designers who have built projects throughout the U.S. and Pacific Rim and won more than 60 local and national awards for design excellence. Past projects include the San Diego Convention Center Sails Pavilion; Hilton & Marriott hotels; Mission Trails Regional Park Visitor & Interpretive Center; San Diego State University's Gateway Center & KPBS Copley Telecommunications Center and the Suwon University Computer Center in Seoul, South Korea.
The firm was established in 1977 by Joseph O. Wong. Under Mr. Wong's direction, JWDA has earned a reputation for producing a quality product on time and on budget. He served as board member for the Asian Business Association, and Board Director for the Centre City Development Corporation as well as the San Diego Chamber of Commerce.
In the past few years, Mr. Wong has overseen the design of several award-winning community service projects in Southern California including: the Chinese Historical Museum, the Ronald McDonald House and several affordable housing projects in downtown San Diego.
