San Diego, CA -- Joseph O. Wong was recently elected to serve a two-year term as a Member of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He joins a long list of local luminaries, serving the community via the Chamber of Commerce, but is the only architect on the Board. His tenure began on January 1, 2006 and will continue through 2007. The Chamber celebrated the swearing in of the Board of Directors at its 135th Annual Dinner at the Town & Country Resort on January 19, 2006.
The Chamber was established in 1870 by Alonzo Horton and several other prominent and concerned San Diegans. Over the years, the Chamber has been involved with public policy issues that have shaped the face of San Diego. From fresh drinking water to establishing Balboa Park to bringing military bases into the region, the Chamber has been at the forefront of supporting the development of San Diego into a thriving metropolis.
Today the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce is still one of the most influential forces in shaping local government and regional economic development. With more than 3,000 members the Chamber of Commerce is involved in affecting public policy and providing valuable resources to all of San Diego and the region. The Chamber sponsors a multitude of resources including the Economic Research Bureau and the Mexico Business Center that focus on regional issues, creating dialogue on how the decisions made today will affect the San Diego of tomorrow.
Joseph O. Wong, FAIA, NCARB is the founding principal of the firm, Joseph Wong Design Associates, and has served on the Board of Directors for the Centre City Development Corporation (CCDC), a San Diego Redevelopment Agency. Mr. Wong is also active with many community activities including World Trade Center - Asia Desk and the Chinese Historical Museum.
