Lane Field Conceptual Plan Gains Approval

San Diego, CA - Located on San Diego's waterfront, the development at the former Lane Field site moved closer to realization last month when the Port of San Diego approved the conceptual plan. The design transforms almost six acres of parking lots into a lavishly landscaped retail plaza with restaurants, entertainment, and harbor front accommodations for both day visitors and vacationers. The plan suggests two glowing towers - one a luxury establishment offering 250 suites, the other an InterContinental Hotel offering 550 rooms, both supported by podiums that contain street-level retail and restaurants as well as 1,700 parking spaces. The new plan transforms C Street into a pedestrian promenade that opens the waterfront and preserves the view, welcoming visitors to the brilliant harbor. In addition, the creation of a 100-foot esplanade will be achieved by moving Harbor Drive 70 feet to the east thus establishing a true waterfront pedestrian park.

JWDA provided architectural design for the conceptual plan and has been retained as an architect for the remaining phases. Other key design team members include: Davis Davis Architects; Hargreaves Associates, Landscape Architect; Project Design Consultants, Civil Engineer. The JWDA team is led by Joseph Wong, FAIA, Christoph Fassler, and Rick Rounds, AIA.
