San Diego, CA -- The San Diego City Council approved measures that promise the prompt development of the Marriott Renaissance Hotel in the heart of San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. The project site is located on the block bounded by J Street, Fifth, Sixth and Island Avenues. JWDA was retained as architect for the proposed 12-story hotel full service Renaissance Hotel which includes 334 rooms, approximately 13,690-square-feet of retail/commercial space, 4,200-square-feet for a lobby bar/lounge and 6,380-square-feet of ballroom, 3,900-square-feet of meeting space and 5,850-square-feet of pre-function area. Parking for 205 cars will be provided in two below-grade levels with access off of Sixth Avenue.
The first floor will house the hotel lobby, bar/lounge, retail and commercial space as well as concierge and guest services. The second floor will provide space for the ballroom and meeting rooms. The third level will include hotel rooms, a health club and a spacious terrace with an outdoor pool and patio area. The remaining floors will be occupied by guest rooms. Construction is expected to be complete by 2006.
