Las Vegas, NV -- The 10th year of the DBIA's National Design-Build Awards Competition was held in early November. The Awards honored over 28 teams for their excellent achievements in the past year. This year the National Design-Build Award went to a project that was the first project that used design-build delivery for the client, the San Diego Unified Port District. In fact, the project was so successful that it prompted the Port to issue a subsequent RFP, specifying design-build delivery for a major development in the vicinity.
The award winning project, the 619,000 square-foot San Diego Convention Center Garage, accommodates 2,000 spaces for vehicle parking on seven stories. 690 precast concrete piles support the cast-in-place concrete building and the parking decks are post-tensioned.
The project was completed on time and under budget and exceeds the owner's expectations. The garage was completed approximately one year sooner than if it had been a design-bid-build project, generating much appreciated revenue far ahead of schedule.
