City of Chula Vista Announces Beautification Award Winners

Chula Vista, CA -- The City of Chula Vista honored twenty projects at the 32nd Annual Beautification Awards ceremony on August 19. The Clubhouse at EastLake Woods received top honors with the bestowal of the Richard Welsh Memorial Award. The 10,000-square-foot project was presented the award for "architecture of exceptional merit" during the city's awards ceremony and celebration. The Welsh Award is named in honor of a Chula Vista architect and educator who was a long-time Chula Vista resident and member of the Design Review Committee and is awarded periodically to honor projects that exhibit superior function and design.

Located in Chula Vista, east of Interstate 805, EastLake is one of the largest master-planned communities in San Diego County, totaling 3,200 acres, including 180 acres of industrial land, more than 70 acres of commercial property, and more than 1,100 acres of parks, recreation and open space. EastLake is developed by The EastLake Co., which markets land to individual builders and commercial/industrial/retail users.

The awards are sponsored by the City of Chula Vista and the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce. Winners are selected from construction completed during the year 2003.
