The 787,611 SF community’s four-story podium makes a street-level statement with a motor court entry, transparent residential lobby, and a wrapping of retail spaces. Four levels of parking are contained below grade, with additional parking on the upper podium levels. Located at the convergence of vibrant urban communities including the Gaslamp District, Little Italy, and Bankers Hill, Andia is part of the growing network of intersecting Greenways that link parks, the waterfront, and various other outdoor destinations with key neighborhoods throughout Downtown. Andia’s 3,800 SF lobby features floor-to-ceiling glazing, lounge seating, gathering areas, a coffee bar, and a three-sided fireplace. The 5th floor presents a 15,000 SF pool terrace with a 75′ pool, a 35′ wading pool, spa, BBQ areas, fire pits and private cabanas. Adjacent to the pool, residents will enjoy a community lounge, dining areas, a 3,500 SF indoor / outdoor fitness center, a spin studio, sauna, and steam rooms, and a putting green. The 17-story, 180-key apartment tower is clad in varying shades of tan pre-cast concrete panel, giving a unique and structured appearance to the building form. The double-height residential lobby is finished with bronze metal storefront and porcelain tile, with the tile arranged in a stacked pattern to accentuate the geometric language between base and tower. Rounded balconies serving the upper-level amenities are placed central to the main façade to complement and soften the tower form and give prominence to public indoor/outdoor spaces. The 247,830 SF project is the first of its kind to include a research lab operated by the University of California San Diego Center for Healthy Aging in partnership with the Stein Institute for Research on aging. This unique partnership will serve to forward research on aging, in particular, wellness and longevity in older years. The 527,500 SF structure fully utilizes its nearly half-acre site and contributes a lustrous design to the San Diego skyline. The project includes 389 residential units ranging from studios to 3-bedroom apartments, with 33 units designated as affordable housing. Building amenities include double-height retail spaces and a grand residential lobby at ground level; an expansive outdoor terrace coupled with a fitness room, a yoga studio, a speakeasy with open seating and private dining area, and leasing office on level 6 (on top of the podium); and a sky terrace equipped with a large pool and spa area, a lounge, a game room, and a reading area on level 40. The architecture of 800 Broadway is sleek and modern, using a refined material palette of vision glass and metal panel in white, silver and blue. The design for the podium levels complements the tower massing, and delivers pops of blue to the streetscape. Architectural projections wrap the corners of the podium while continuing the full height of the tower, working together to create a continuous ribbon that accentuates the nearly 440-ft tall structure while embellishing the otherwise floor-to-ceiling glass field of the tower fenestration. Located just across the southern gateway to the school’s main campus, it sits adjacent to existing on-campus housing within walking distance of neighborhood retail, restaurants, and grocer, and steps from the SDSU Library, Viejas Arena, and the SDSU light rail station, which connects to the Mission Valley Campus, Snapdragon Arena, and the greater San Diego region. Designed to meet the needs of SDSU’s growing student population, which reached 40,000 in 2025, Accolade Campanile integrates modern living units with generous study and collaboration spaces, and connection-fostering social amenities moments from campus. Features include a second-level amenity deck with a pool, spa, outdoor kitchens, fire pits, and multiple gathering areas. Notably, The Lindley includes 60 hotel rooms, setting it apart from other recent residential projects. Residential unit types range from studio, one-bedroom and one-bedroom plus den through two- and three-bedroom units, each equipped with its own private balcony. Lindley’s tower sits atop a 6-story podium comprised of double-height retail and lobby spaces at grade and parking wrapped within the podium levels above-grade, with an additional four stories of parking below. The podium is topped with a 17,000 SF terrace featuring a resort-style pool and spa, large lounge area, and catered landscape and hardscape areas throughout. Interior amenities merge high-end hospitality with a diverse residential program including separate hotel and residential lobbies, mail parlor and package room, leasing offices, co-working space, business room, conference room, game room, club lounge, club room, private reading rooms, spa parlor, sauna, massage rooms, and expansive interior and exterior fitness areas. The building design is inspired by a modern, urbanized architecture; sleek in profile, with polished materials including metal paneling and floor-to-ceiling glass storefront used to define the podium and tower structures. A tight pattern of vertical aluminum slats adorns the podium exterior, with up-lighting used throughout the exterior to better articulate the architectural detailing. Metal-framed overhangs outline the main entrances and corners of the podium and tower roof for visual prominence. A project on behalf of the Weingart Center and Chelsea Investment Corporation, JWDA served as entitlement architect in coordination with architects AXIS Architecture + Design. Weingart Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that provides individuals experiencing homelessness with essential tools necessary to stabilize their lives, secure income, and find permanent housing. The Weingart Tower is a new build featuring 278 residences in a 19-story structure. The project is specifically designed to provide safe, secure, and dignified housing for unsheltered individuals, and includes 228 studio apartments and 50 one-bedroom apartments, with 40 units reserved specifically for veterans. Each of the apartments is fully furnished and includes full kitchen and bathroom facilities. Weingart Tower includes amenities including a fitness room, computer lab, career center, library, bicycle storage, laundry facilities, and terraces with community gardens, all part of Weingart Center’s mandate to remove the barriers that keep people from housing, and addresses the needs of seniors, Veterans, women, members of the LGBTQAI+ community, the formerly incarcerated, and many others experiencing homelessness. Managing Principal Matthew Geaman, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP Managing Principal with JWDA since 2008 Matthew Geaman was born in Rochester, NY, and raised in the Chicago, IL, area where the region’s diverse cultural and educational influences laid a solid foundation for his future achievements and notable career. While attending the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, he spent a year of his undergraduate studies in Versailles, France; and was later inducted into the Gargoyle Architecture Honor Society. Matthew became a LEED Accredited Professional in 2005. After working in Chicago for four years, he moved to San Diego and joined JWDA in 2008. As Partner and Managing Principal, Matthew co-manages the firm with its founder Joseph Wong and is known for his commitment to the highest quality design, technical excellence, and transparent client relations. Matthew’s non-profit and industry-related volunteer leadership is emblematic of both his professional career and his personal ethos. In addition to overseeing a multitude of high profile JWDA projects, his list of current and previous community service includes President of AIA San Diego, Vice President of the San Diego Architectural Foundation, Board Member at La Jolla Music Society, seats on the AIACC Board of Directors and the AIACC Planning and Finance Committee. The design for the destination hotel organically integrates traditional Eastern Garden spaces and dispersed elements of holiday resort to create a localized “Modern-Chinese” architectural style. The structure is based on a series of courtyards interwoven with the surrounding landscape and offering breathtaking views of the Dongtan Wetlands. The project celebrates a symbiosis between Eastern and Western cultures, reflecting the classic Jiangnan architectural style popular to the region — characterized by white walls, grey tiles, and bridges — while providing elegant western amenities for guests. Located on a lavishly landscaped 13-acre site adjacent to the San Diego Convention Center and Petco Park in downtown San Diego, CA, the hotel tower contains 1,200 rooms and suites with several exterior terraces, retail space, a luxe spa and health center with pool, and two restaurants. The significant use of exterior glass complements the sky and surrounding skyline while mirroring activities along the bay. Nestled atop the coastal bluffs in the laid-back beach town of Encinitas, CA, the design of Alila Marea draws inspiration from the area's unspoiled natural landscape and vibrant Southern California beach culture. Approaching the understated resort does provide a surprise of sorts, as it seamlessly merges with the rugged bluffs, sandy shores, and expansive ocean vistas. Framed by natural stone, warm woods, clean lines, and native plantings, the resort fosters a unique and immersive experience that honors the beauty of its surroundings, fostering a deep sense of connection to nature while prioritizing environmental stewardship. The resort is home to 114 spacious guestrooms, nine studio rooms, five one-bedroom suites, and the Ponto and Grandview presidential suites. Coastal and garden views are framed from each chamber, with natural elements and organic lines informed by the landscape. Totaling 1,037 square feet, both presidential suites include floor-to-ceiling windows and double-sided fireplaces that serve both the interior living room and the outdoor living space.
